News in the modern world

Fortunately, modern man, of course, with his immediate desire, is not limited in the possibility of free access to current news. Simply put, both the situation in the world and the immediate situation in each city are not particularly hidden now. The rationale of such a decision is hard to miss. Having access to current news, a person is spared the danger of thinking something wrong, believing in what he has thought up and then, as an option, convincing almost everyone around him of his opinion.

Just do not forget that such a negative development of events is possible only when receiving information from a reliable information source. So it turns out that the essence of the problem lies precisely in its successful search.

Internet, newspapers, TV…

In a word, it can all be called mass media. Needless to say, it is not in vain that the media is called the “fourth power”. You can talk as much as you want about the incorruptibility of print media and TV channels, you can even give a lot of illustrative examples, but all the same, Internet resources remain a better solution in matters of obtaining reliable information.

Alternatively, the site provides access to the latest news, which helps the interested user to always stay up to date. Moreover, in this case we are talking about both world news and events, so to speak, of local significance.

News is an operational information message that is of political, social or economic interest to viewers, that is, a message about events that have occurred recently or are currently taking place.

News on television and radio are broadcast several times a day, starting at the beginning of the hour and lasting from two minutes to half an hour. News is usually from areas such as politics, economics, science, culture, sports, with a weather forecast at the end.

Genres and formats

Many manuals on journalism provide schemes for dividing journalistic materials into genres. Often such schemes are purely theoretical: journalists get used to the formats and terminology of their own publications.
The publication most often works with a small number of formats. Different publications call the same formats differently.

However, it is useful to know that outside of your publication there is a practical division of news material into genres and categories.

The corresponding system, adopted as a standard by the major news agencies, was developed and implemented by the IPTC5 organization. Back in the pastbcentury, the exchange of news and photographs between agencies required a common standard for describing materials.

Each material that meets the IPTC standards is accompanied by a large amount of metadata. They describe the genre, subject, angle of the picture(if it is a picture), as well as the region from which this or that material came. All this is done at a very serious level. Suffice it to say that more than a thousand categories are offered to determine the subject of the message.

Header

We will begin our acquaintance with the subject from the heading, because this is the most the main part of the news. Readers decide which article to read title. Moreover, in 60-80 percent of cases the news itself is not read, but
get an idea of what’s going on by the headlines. This is understandable – on the day a medium-sized news agency issues up to two hundred messages on a variety of Topics. In terms of the volume of the text, this roughly corresponds to a thick story8.

No reader will open every piece of news – he glances over headers. In general, online publications have taken their headlines from paper newspapers. The heading is different, there is a general opinion about which headings are better and which worse, no. Time also greatly changes the concept of headline quality. Nonetheless, several decisive factors can be named: readability, attractiveness, informativeness, brevity.

News is a fact that is transformed with the calculation of audience perception. News – a message about something new. Not every fact can become the main journalistic text, but only socially significant. News is divided on a territorial basis: local, national, international. In order for an event to become news to everyone, it must (even before journalistic processing) have a number of qualities.

Not every incident deserves attention, but socially significant, or curious, unusual. In the 20th century, an attempt was made to develop a professional “feel for the news” among reporters, for which purpose to fix in the minds of journalists “classical elements of news” – such signs of fact that promise interesting material for the audience.
